Hypnobirthing - What is it?

Hypnobirthing is a generic term that describes the use of ‘hypnosis or hypnotherapy’ with birth. However, the name can be quite misleading! Obviously the Positive Birth Program is not all about ‘self hypnosis’… in fact, it is just one of the many tools that we utilise to prepare for a positive and empowered birth.

The ‘hypno’ part of ‘hypnobirthing’ refers to the hypnotherapy (or deep relaxation) that we use to let go of fears leading up to birth and condition ourselves to release endorphins during childbirth. With the help of hypnotherapy, the birth of your baby can be a more calm and relaxed experience; one where you are in the driver’s seat, rather than feeling like a passenger. This is likely to reduce the need for interventions during your birthing.

The Positive Birth Program is as much about mindset as it is about techniques for childbirth. When a mother and her birth partner are able to approach birth with knowledge, good support, and tools (relaxation, visualisation, movement, touch, acupressure, relaxation/self-hypnosis and breathing) – then birth can be a positive and very empowering experience.

What is Hypnobithing?

Hypnobirthing is a another tool in your birthing kit. It teaches self-hypnosis, relaxation techniques, and deep breathing exercises to help expectant parents prepare for and experience childbirth more comfortably and calmly. It aims to reduce fear, tension, and pain during labor and delivery by promoting a state of deep relaxation and mental focus.
